Portable Air Conditioners
A portable air conditioner is plug-and-play: roll it into the room, vent the hose out of a window with the supplied window kit, and switch on. There's no outdoor unit and no refrigerant pipework, so no installer is needed — ideal for rented homes, bedrooms and home offices.
Portable units range from about 7,000 BTU for a small bedroom up to 14,000 BTU for a large living room. They're less efficient and a little noisier than a fixed split system, but unbeatable for flexibility.
Why choose a portable air conditioner
- No installation — vent the hose through the supplied window kit
- Perfect for renters and anyone who can't fit a fixed unit
- Move it room to room as needed
- Self-install friendly — start cooling the day it arrives
Need it installed?
These units are self-install friendly — but if you'd rather a pro handle it, we can match you with a local engineer.

Portable Air Conditioners — frequently asked
Do portable air conditioners need installation?
No. A portable unit is self-contained — you simply route the exhaust hose out of a nearby window using the window seal kit in the box. No outdoor condenser and no refrigerant lines are involved, so no engineer is required.
Can I use a portable air conditioner in a bedroom?
Yes. Look for a lower noise rating (dB) and a sleep mode. Portable units are noisier than split systems because the compressor is in the room, but a 7,000–9,000 BTU model will comfortably cool a typical bedroom.
Do portable air conditioners heat as well as cool?
Some portable models are reverse-cycle heat pumps that also heat. Check the product spec — heating-capable units are flagged "Heats too" on the product page.
